American Tango

The American Tango may be described as simple in comparison to its Argentine cousin. And while the American Tango has been adapted to ballroom conventions and musical standards it still has its origins in the ghettos of Buenos Aires. Originally known as the “Baile con corte” or dance with a rest or pause, and later known by other names in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century and elsewhere in Europe, the Tango has always been known as dance of romance, seduction, and passion.

Even to beginners in their first lessons chanting “slow-slow-quick-quick-slow”, it becomes apparent that phrasing is extremely important. But Argentine or American, the Tango is more about the controlled expression of passion in it’s several forms: desire, betrayal, jealousy, trust, lust and love, the Tango has it all.
